Chennai airport’s T4 terminal to handle Air India, Alliance Air domestic flights
Domestic flights of Air India and Alliance Air will be handled at T4 (erstwhile international terminal) of Chennai airport. The two airlines will operate their domestic flights from the terminal on 15th November. The terminal, which was functioning as international departure, was vacated after new international terminal was opened earlier this year.
With this, AAI will be able to use the ground floor arrival terminal which was lying unused as its baggage ramp was not suitable for international flights. The arrival and departure flights will now be used by Air India and Alliance Air. This will decongest the existing domestic terminal allowing the airport to sanction more frequencies and new domestic flights by other airlines in the coming months. A new terminal is now being built adjacent to the recently opened integrated international terminal. When the new building is completed next year, the airport will have two domestic terminals on either side of the integrated international terminal. This will increase the passenger handling capacity of the airport to 35 million passengers per year.
